SUBTERRÁNEOS /SUBTERRANEANS (Gaspar Orozco and Karina Escamilla, 2010, 26 minutes; U.S.A.) Five musical groups from South and Center Mexico survive playing Norteña music in the subways of New York. Caught between a yearning for the country they left behind and the hope of building a life in a new society, this small community of musicians is the manifestation of an identity transformation -- a living symbol of the Mexican immigrant experience in New York City. DIRT (Nancy Savoca, 2003, 91 minutes; U.S.A.) Dolores is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador who works as a housemaid. Under the constant fear of deportation, she wonders whether she should return to her country. Her decision to leave is strengthened when her life is suddenly complicated by a series of unfortunate events. English and Spanish. Q&A with Jerry Carlson (producer) and Nancy Savoca.
LOS QUE SE QUEDAN / THOSE WHO REMAIN (Carlos Hagerman, Juan Carlos Rulfo, 2009, 96 minutes; Mexico) An award winning documentary on the emotional encounter back home among relatives of those who have crossed the U.S. –Mexico border in search of better opportunities. The movie offers a glimpse of the human impact of immigration beyond the political debate and a profound opportunity to connect with Mexico and its culture. Spanish with English subtitles , and with funding from Fundación BBVA Bancomer. Q&A with Vilma Vale-Brennan (Producer of the US Road Show) and Juan Carlos Rulfo.

RECORDANDO EL MAMONCILLO / REMEMBERING THE MAMONCILLO(Pamela Sporn, 2006, 15 minutes; U.S.A.) Every second Sunday of July for over 30 years, hundreds of Cubans and lovers of Cuban music have assembled at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Queens for a very special festival. Organized by the Club Cubano Interamericano, the festival is not just a dance, but an event that maintains Cuban culture and history in New York City. In English and Spanish. Q&A with Pamela Sporn.
EL ESPIRITU DE LA SALSA / THE SPIRIT OF SALSA (Francisco Bello, Tim Sternberg, 2010, 47 minutes; U.S.A.) Academy Award®-nominated filmmakers Jon Alpert, Francisco Bello, Matthew O'Neill and Tim Sternberg spotlight a diverse group of ten New Yorkers as they invigorate their lives through the rich art of salsa dancing under the tutelage of celebrated salsa dance instructor Tomas Guerrero of the Santo Rico Dance Company. Ranging from the Hudson River's revitalized waterfront to the streets of Spanish Harlem to the glamour of Times Square, El Espiritu de la Salsa follows a cast of dancers, including a E.R. doctor from Battery Park, a heartbroken Wall Street trader, a Midtown Manhattan policeman and a Queens construction contractor, who have 6 weeks to rehearse for their first public performance.
